R.I.S.E. - Reaching Impacted Students Everywhere
                                   About Us

It's actually not about us, but it's all about our youth. Our focus is children and improving their lives by helping to improve how they see themselves, and ultimately how they feel about themselves. As noted author and self help guru, Robert Collier states " Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out".

How we work with Youth:

All services provided by R.I.S.E. and its staff are consultative in nature. We will provide a series of interactive workshops for students. These practical workshops involve “real world” exercises that students are confronted with in their daily routine including the time they spend at school, and in their social interaction with family and friends. Workshops are conducted by skilled facilitators who combine real world examples and extensive experience in addressing these critical real life scenarios. These workshop modules include:

  • Youth medical Prep Program (MPP)
  • Peer Mediation /Conflict Resolution
  • Program-Wide Behavior Modification / Incentive Recognition Programs
  • Character Education / Self-Esteem Building / Life Skills / Bullying
  • Entrepreneurship / Career Orientation and Exploration / Shadowing and Mentoring Experiences
  • Community Service and Outreach
  • Homework Support and Assistance
  • Standardized Test Prep Tutoring
  • ESL (English as a second language)
  • NCLB [AYP] Standardized Test Prep / Tutoring and Remediation
  • Youth Preventative health care Awareness Workshops

Additionally, our goal is to raise the achievement for every participating student. We emphasize critical thinking as both a way to succeed academically, as well as effectively manuever in social settings and avoid altercations by applying critical thinking processes that include understanding consequences of every action. The importance of math, language arts, reading and writing are critical components to our After School program, as we understand the importance of these areas in matriculating.

Our "Career Orientation / Shadowing and Mentoring Program" focuses on providing academic tutoring and preparation as well as encouraging our program's brighter youth who have the desire and/or interest to pursue varying careers in the medical field (ex: doctors, nurses, medical technicians, etc.)

Our Youth Medical Prep Program (MPP) is our premier program, reserved for youth demonstrating aptitude and talent for careers in the medical field. This program  encompasses community service and outreach; career orientation, exploration, shadowing and mentoring experiences for interested students. Our Supportive Educational Services (SES) is uniquely different from other traditional mentoring programs than tend to focus on the symptoms only. We address all aspects in nurturing youth achievement.

MPP’s intent is to enhance and academically prep youth who have interest, aptitude and future aspirations in the fields of medicine and scientific technology. Our goal and hope is to improve our nation’s Health Care Industry by increasing over time the numbers of varied needed career professionals by providing a “feeder pool” of talent.
Like many of our programs we will utilize relative researched based computer-aided instructional software programs. Emphasis will be in the core curriculum content areas of math, science, and language arts. Subject areas that a large percentage of our nation’s students K-12 are deficient with respect to meeting D.O.E. NCLB (AYP) standards and regulations. Resulting in many of our nation’s youths not completing school and for some that do not having the skill competencies in math and science which are essential for pursuing and obtaining more advance careers in scientific technology and medicine where our nation’s workforce is presently suffering from severe shortages.
Our MPP will devise individual program plans (IPP) for our program youth, which will be programmatically technology curriculum integrated, grade level appropriate, self-paced, tutorial, basic in concept. Emphasis will be on identifying prerequisite curricular software programs in math and sciences that will not only prepare youths academically with the educational resources required, but inspire them as well for continuing their career pursuits in medicine, science, and technology in post secondary institutions of higher learning. Our program’s performance assessment will be an ongoing collaborative effort closely monitored and self evaluated between our program staff, school personnel, parents, and program youth.
MPP’s instructional sessions will be accompanied by our Community Service and Outreach Program that would necessitate volunteerism of services by program youths to local community hospitals, medical centers, nursing homes, child care centers, etc.. Additionally, as part of our Career Exploration / Orientation / Shadowing and Mentoring Program students through pre-arranged agreements with local agencies will be provided hands-on real life experiences of briefly shadowing and being mentored by medical and science technology professionals in the workplace.
Such experiences will have a long lasting and motivating impact on those youths to improve their academic standing as well as their attitudes if they desire to pursue more advance high-level professional careers in the future.

What makes our approach different:

1) We celebrate success along the way and at the finish. Youth participating in our workshops are given constant feedback and encouragement throughout our journey to self realization of the power within each of them. And for those completing the series of workshops modules, we consistently provide them with positive feedback and recognition for their accomplishments.

2) We "actively listen" for input from participating youth. We've incorporated a concept called The Tackle Box. This
program allows our youth to introduce topics that may be embarrassing for them to bring up in front of their peers, yet it could be an important issue that they want addressed by our facilitators. By dropping their suggestion in the Tackle Box we ensure their anonymity while getting to hear important issues that really matter to youth.

3) Peer to Peer influence. Our research has concluded that despite our best efforts to reach young people there are those times that the message we are attempting to convey comes across much more effectively from the mouths of other youth. Therefore, R.I.S.E. has incorporated a Tutor/Student Mentor program. We have identified "peer super stars". These individuals serve as a model to their peers, they exhibit high self esteem, are excellent students and considered good student citizens. We will utilize these "peer super star" achievers into our mentoring program to assist our efforts in mentoring and encouraging the grammar and middle school student who may be otherwise difficult to reach.

4)We expose youth to the familiar and unfamiliar while ensuring a high level of comfort and security. We recognize there's a heightened sense of comfort and confidence when young people are together and interact with adults. Hence, the majority of our sessions are designed for facilitators to interact with them as a group. However, while we know that familiarity provides a sense of comfort, we also recognize that it can limit the ability to learn new things and broaden ones' exposure.

At R.I.S.E. we will expose our youth to a wide variety of experiences that may be unfamiliar to them including participation in debates involving issues they experience or have observed with the intent of resolving these issues without violence or heated arguments. Occassionally, we will may participate in sports like lacrosse, field hockey, bowling, gymnastics and soccer. We firmly believe that by exposing our youth to a broad variety of sporting and social outlets we feed into a positive mindset of "Yes I Can".

We would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and demonstrate the value of what R.I.S.E. is all about, and that's improving the lives of children.
